Some parking spaces at the new Cowboy Stadium will be nearly a mile a way
While the new Cowboy's stadium boasts some 30,000 parking spots, only 12,000 will actually be at the stadium. The parking lots at Six Flags and other surrounding businesses will open up for the fans, which will mean fans will be walking up to a mile to the stadium itself. Think of it like a long walk on the beach. Except there won't be a beach, just a long walk.

LOLOLOLOL - and remember Arlington decided several time to NOT embrace mass-transit.
You've just got to appreciate good, advance planning. Too bad there wasn't any.

Considering most everyone is gonna be cramming beer and nachos down their maw, is it really that much of a negative for peeps to take a long stroll?

Complaining about a long walk to a athletic event is some upper level irony.

Maybe they will have those cute little trams/shuttles/trolleys cruising the lots that folks can jump on and ride to the stadium...like they had (still have?) at SixFlags ...and Disney World...etc.

AnnMarie Wilson, says:
Hmmm and I wonder if they'll charge for the trams? And if not how many might run? I read that the minimum for parking would be $20.
That's insane.

I work over in the shadow of that monstrosity. I remember when they tore up a square mile of Arlington to erect the Ballpark.
What had been a guaranteed traffic snarl every couple of days with four two lane roads dead-ending into a huge blocked off circular drive was replaced with four large six-lane roads... YES that all have to be blocked off for games for pedestrian traffic as the parking is across all these six lanes. No bridges, no walk-overs, no underground traverses. A much better quality traffic snarl, I must say.
There is ONE way to get to the stadium without crossing a blocked six lane road. The beer dollies have an underground tunnel.
Same genius at work on this round of sports indulgence. I do love Clay's observation above.

I'm sure people who complain about long walks to an athletic event love to use the pronoun 'we' when talking about the outcome of that event.

I do need to add a disclaimer here-- I do not think of a mile as a long walk at all.

More then anything else it's:
The concept of paying the robbery cost of the ticket - then shelling out $20+ for parking.
The attitude - "we don't care" - we'll take your money and deliver only what we want.
The principle of the whole mess.
I'm sorry, but the only way I would be going to this disaster is if Texas froze over in August! Um, even then I'd have to be convinced.

AnnMarie,
The ones I was thinking of were free...tho I never rode them. Seems I was always nearly to the car when they'd pass by. :)
Seems, in Irving, we tried to park in some business lot up on the highway and walk to the stadium...I think mainly due to the traffic jam parking lot mess in leaving after the game, tho I do recall getting stuck in it at least once.

The principle of what? That the owners of a sports team wants to make as much money as possible? If I had a parking lot 40,000 suckers would pay to park in-- I'd charge'm too!

Kay, says:
Yes Jason,
I remember that too...and how they practically stole all the land from the owners in order to create that monstrosity.

So with the economy tanking, foreclosures commonplace, gas prices through the roof, food costs doubling, layoffs everywhere... how are ticket sales anyway?

AnnMarie,
There will always be people with more money than they know what to do with...which I guess will be the ones that will keep this place from turning into a giant homeless shelter.

Considering most red-blooded Texans would sell at least one of their children to afford 'boys tix, I bet they're doing just fine.
