FRISCO Wes Cooper threw for career-highs of 368 yards and nine touchdown passes as the Frisco Thunder pulled away to a 63-44 victory over the San Angelo Stampede Express in the 2008 Intense Football League opener before 2,286 at the Dr Pepper Star Center Saturday night.
Cooper connected with Jason Deml (8 catches, 151 yards) for four touchdowns and Daron Lawrence (6-59) for three and Richard Morris (10-148) for two as Frisco (1-0) scored 21 unanswered third-quarter points to take control after the teams exchanged the lead four times in the opening 31 minutes.
A fourth-quarter fumble recovery of a Stampede Express (0-1) missed field goal return helped the Thunder maintain the lead. Cooper hit Lawrence on a 4-yarder two plays afterwards that made it 63-44.
Hunter Sims (138 yards) and EJ Nemeth (104) each threw two San Angelo touchdowns. Antwane Andrews rushed for two while Anthony Celestine had four catches for 106 yards and two scores.
Frisco hosts the Katy Ruff Riders Sunday on 3/9 at 3 p.m.
