Father of developer in Dallas corruption scandal pleads guilty to tax evasion
DALLAS Jack Potashnik, father of Brian Potashnik who has been charged in the ongoing corruption investigation in Dallas, pled guilty to tax evasion on Friday. Potashnik neglected to report $525,000 in consulting fees he was paid by Southwest Housing, owned by his son Brian, as well as other income between 2003 and 2005.
The U.S. attorney has charged Brian Potashnik and his wife Cheryl of bribing former Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Don Hill, former Plan Commissioner D'Angelo Lee, state Rep. Terri Hodge, and others to obtain multimillion-dollar contracts for Southwest Housing to build apartments in southern Dallas. As part of the corruption scandal, former Dallas City Council member James Fantroy was found guilty last Thursday of embezzling $20,000 from Paul Quinn College. Hill and 13 others will go to trial in June.
