McKinney ISD middle school theatre students earn “superior” ratings in UIL competition
McKINNEY – On Friday, Feb. 29, McKinney ISD theatre students from Dowell Middle School, Evans Middle School, Faubion Middle School and Scott Johnson Middle School participated in the Middle School University Interscholastic League One-Act Play Competition held at Faubion Middle School and received several top honors including Best Actor and Best Actress awards. All four middle schools received superior ratings, the highest possible rating, in the competition featuring seven middle schools from Allen and McKinney.

Dowell Middle School performed ‘Skinflints and Scoundrels: Molere’s Miser’, Evans Middle School performed ‘The Miracle Worker’, Faubion Middle School performed ‘Governing Alice’ and Scott Johnson Middle School put on the play ‘Cyrano de Bergerac’ in the competition.
Myles Primm, an 8th grade student from Scott Johnson Middle School won the Best Actor Award for his role in ‘Cyrano de Bergerac’ and Megan Wiley from Evans Middle School won the Best Actress Award for her role in ‘The Miracle Worker’.
In addition, several other students received Honorable Mention and All Star Cast Awards at the competition. Luke Penny and Josh Starrett, from Dowell Middle School received Honorable Mention Honors; Sarah Barr and Tyler Hook from Evans Middle School won Honorable Mention Honors; Adam Nelson and Heidi Wilzbach from Faubion Middle School received Honorable Mention Awards and Sean Dunn and Mackenzie Schulien from Scott Johnson Middle School received Honorable Mention recognition.
The All Star Cast for Dowell Middle School went to Holly Roberts and Harrison Santiago and the All Star Cast for Evans Middle School went to Truett Harris and Madison Mercado. Faubion Middle School’s All Star Cast included Emma Pendergast and Andrew Wilson and Scott Johnson Middle School’s All Star Cast consisted of Alex Ammons and Caroline Upchurch.
“I am extremely proud of all the students and directors of all of our middle school theatres,” said Roy Renzenbrink, McKinney ISD Director Fine Arts. “To have all the theatres receive these ratings makes me very proud to be associated with such fine students and teachers. It shows that hard work and dedication partnered with quality instruction pays off.”
