TCU’s Hesselberg named Mountain West’s Diver of the Year
Junior R.J. Hesselberg was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Diver of the Year at the conclusion of the MWC Championships on Saturday. Hesselberg claimed the championship in the three-meter springboard event on Wednesday.
Hesselberg, a native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, set a school record with a score of 359.80 to claim the three-meter title. Hesselberg also placed second in the platform event (285.55) and sixth in the one-meter dive (289.80).
On the season, Hesselberg won 12 events and set a new conference record with seven MWC Men's Diver of the Week selections, including a stretch of six consecutive weeks of winning the award.
Hesselberg will compete at the NCAA Diving Regional beginning on March 6 in Houston, Texas, in hopes of qualifying for the 2008 NCAA Championships for the second straight season.
