Texas Rangers third baseman Hank Blalock was held out of the lineup on Tuesday against the Diamondbacks with a slight neck injury, which he suffered in a car accident on Monday in the Phoenix area.

Blalock's Cadillac Escalade was rear-ended by a woman while he was stopped at a stop sign on Union Hill Road. Blalock's wife Misty and the couple's 3 1/2-year-old son, Trey Ryan, were in the vehicle at the time of the accident, but were not seriously hurt.

The accident occurred between 2:30 and 3 p.m. and he and his wife were taken to the emergency room and did not leave the hospital until around 7 p.m. Trey was not hurt in the accident.

Blalock hit .293 with a .543 slugging percentage and 10 home runs in 58 games last season. He was on the disabled list from May 17 to Sept. 1.
