Dallas-based Chili’s crows about its employee getting a recipe featured on Food Network’s Ultimate Recipe Showdown

A recipe from a Chili's manager in New York will be featured on the Food Network's Ultimate Recipe Showdown Sunday. Ivan Aviles, general manager at a Chili's in Long Island, submitted the prize-winning recipe for his "Chipotle Grilled Steak Sandwich."

"We were pleased to see a Chili's team member recognized by the Food Network for his culinary expertise and to see Ivan's recipe incorporated into the menu of one of our industry peers. As the old adage goes: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery -- and we're extremely flattered!" said Dana Tilley, vice president of food and beverage innovation for Dallas-based Chili's Grill & Bar.

(What Tilley doesn't say is that part of the deal with this show is that the winning recipes are featured at arch-rival TGI Friday's. Zing!)

I guess Ivan's input at Chili's wasn't great enough to get his recipe on the Chili's menu. Perhaps TGI Friday's will steal this much under valued employee.

Akira Sato Jazz trumpeter Akira Sato, by way of Tokyo, Japan and Vancouver, Canada, is an SMU faculty member and director of The Meadow Jazz Orchestra at SMU. He is also an adjunct faculty member at UNT where he teaches jazz arranging. Sato is also heading into the studio soon with other area musicians and playing at the Scat Jazz Lounge tonight. With all that he's up to, the least you could do is order a Scotch on the rocks and chill to some tunes. (Photo by flickr user arteunporro. More info
