Dunkin Donuts on Campbell in North Dallas is having grand opening today

Dunkin' Donuts is having a grand opening at its North Dallas branch at 6033 Campbell Road on Wednesday, March 5. So this is interesting -- read this sentence from the press release and try to glean what's missing:

The highly anticipated restaurant will offer customers hot and iced coffee, espresso drinks, breakfast sandwiches, and baked goods -- along with the debut of an expanded menu including a new sausage and cheese "kolache" to fuel the local community.

Can you see what's missing? DOUGHNUTS. It seems like they ought to call this Dunkin Kolaches. (Kolaches are gross.)

Other details gleaned from the press release: that there are plans for "more than 150 Dunkin' Donuts", rather than the 125 previously cited; that this branch exhibits a "new restaurant layout [that] provides a snapshot of what future Dunkin' Donuts stores across the country will look like"; that there's a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, and that "two early birds will be rewarded with a year's supply of complimentary coffee and donuts." Unfortunately, it would appear that we're already too late for that, being as they put out this press release AFTER the store opened.

Details on the food as follows:

-- Made-to-order oven-toasted flatbread sandwiches in three flavors: three cheese; turkey, bacon & cheddar and ham & Swiss

-- Personal-sized, portable pizzas topped with cheese, veggies or pepperoni & sausage

-- An array of breakfast sandwiches, oven-toasted to ensure fluffier eggs, crisper bacon and toasted breads

-- Bite-sized hash browns

-- Warm baked goods, including a variety of freshly made muffins, croissants and gourmet cookies

Again, no mention of the doughnuts! I guess it goes without saying.

*"Kolaches are gross..."*

A gross generalization, methinks. Ever been to West?

After watching someone down ten of West's kolaches in one sitting, I vowed never to eat one ever again. Just looking at them gives me diabetes.

Kolaches are not gross.

Jam? Never seen one with jam in my life. Now sausage, cheese, cheese & potato, yes. Properly made, it's a Ukrainian or Polish "mini-empanada."

Donna Chen, says:

Bill, rumour has it that the hot dog-like kolaches with various meat and cheese fillings are a Texas invention (but a great one). Traditional Czech kolaches have sweet toppings like fruit (or jam).

Donna Chen, says:

Rather, naming those meat filled ones "kolache" is a Texan misnomer. Kolaches filled with meat are actually known as klobasnek according to Wiki.
