Hillary Clinton wins Texas primary

Email Print Tell us your story Comments (9)

Hillary Clinton made a huge comeback in the Democratic nomination race Tuesday, winning the Texas primary over Barack Obama. Clinton also won the primaries in Ohio and Rhode Island, giving her a big slight boost in terms of the number of delegates needed to secure the Democratic nomination. Turnout was estimated to be a record 3.3 million voters, beating the previous record of 2.7 million in 1988.

However, in the wacky "Texas Two Step," Obama held an early lead in the caucuses. Voters went crazy for the always-been-there-but-rarely-mattered caucus, jamming polling places all over North Texas. Complaints came from both sides about possible shady tactics, but election officials say no fraud was suspected.

Fraud is always suspected by someone.

This is why I don't subscribe to the Democratic Party. Every time they get a chance to do something right they eff it up.

See: Gore 00, Kerry 04, and Clinton still hanging around in 08. When will they learn that these old establishment candidates can't even beat weak Republican candidates? It's like Democrats like losing.

You can subscribe to the Democratic Party? Do they give you a free tote bag with your subscription?

there's no doubt that it was an energizing night for her campaign, but i would hardly call say it gave her a "big boost in terms of the number of delegates needed to secure the Democratic nomination."

she did gain some, but with such a narrow victory in texas (and the caucus appearing to fall in obama's favor), clinton is still facing a large deficit in the delegate count.

I caucused in Keller last night and there were tons of people. It was pretty clear most people were a little confused as to what exactly we would be doing, and since we couldn't start until everyone had voted in the primary, people waited for nearly 2 hours before writing down their candidate.

I'll keep my opinions of the process to myself but make the following observation. Coming in to what must have been a lunch room at Central High School with all the energized people there made me tear up momentarily. It was amazing to see that people were so excited about the process and about the candidates. This is an election year where we are less likely to pick the "lesser (greater?) of two evils" as in previous primaries and elections. People actually feel like their choice is someone that can lead their country into a better future. It made me a little proud.

But not too proud. Still a pessimist. Grrrrrr.

I was going to vote, but voting isn't cool, so I stayed home alone and got trashed on Listerine.
