Il Sole in Dallas’ Travis Walk closed down

Il Sole is packing up its pasta and heading somewhere else other than Travis Walk.
Il Sole is packing up its pasta and heading somewhere else other than Travis Walk.

Il Sole, the Travis Walk Italian restaurant owned by Mi Piaci owners Brian and Sonia Black, closed on Saturday.

A recording on the restaurant's phone thanks customers for their support over the last 8-1/2 years before offering a hint as to its demise with the explanation that, while they have closed the Travis Walk location, they are "actively seeking a more supportive facility for our business." Ooooh, landlord troubles. It surely can't have helped Il Sole's situation, nor pleased its owners, that another authentic-y Italian restaurant, Villa-O, just opened last week one floor down, in the space that used to be Samba Room. (The Blacks were unavailable for comment, though the manager at Mi Piaci confirmed that Il Sole had in fact shut down.)

Meanwhile, until Il Sole finds that more supportive facility, the recording advises that some of its house specialties will be offered as daily features at Mi Piaci -- or, as some like to say, Mi Pi.

First Ali Baba's moving from Lower Greenville, now this. If the law of threes holds, what might the next big closing/move be?

Instead of a eulogy, here's a review I did in the not too distant past that hopefully sums up why this place deserved better:

It's too bad the good places never last.

The Law Reviewers?

Oh, wait. You said "big." Sorry, my mistake.

Can't you guys comment on something without pulling yet another crank yanker on yourselves? It's getting really, really boring, and if you can't make it via RSS then try and 'voy dyer' amongst you, yourselves and your egos and find a way to get relevant on other than a dead restaurant's back. Either that, or go to law school.

And quit staring... you're giving cats a bad name....

Sorry, Kirk, no such luck.

Bill: not quite sure where all of the hostility is coming from but I hope that made you feel better.

That post wasn't an attempt to self-promote (you'll notice that we haven't updated our site in over a year), it was just the fastest way I could think of to post a review that summed up my feelings about a place that I was a big fan of and will definitely miss. And I'm not even sure what RSS is, but it better not be contageous.
