— The Dallas Mavericks surprised no one Thursday night at the AAC, putting up little effort against the smoking-hot Rockets en route to a 113-98 loss. With leading scorer Dirk Nowitzki suspended for a hard foul he committed against Utah, the Mavericks kept it close for an entire half before the inevitable third-quarter collapse left them chasing the Rockets the rest of the game.

The Mavericks were led by Josh Howard, who scored 21 points on 8-of-19 shooting, as well as collecting 7 rebounds. Jason Kidd obviously missed the Big German, putting up his worst statistical game since his first with the Mavs: just 7 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and zero steals.

Jason Terry added 17, while Eric Dampier was characteristically unable to take advantage of Yao Ming's absence, weakly putting up just 7 points and 8 rebounds.

The loss, the Mavs' third consecutive, dropped them to 39-23, two games behind the surging Rockets, who have now won 17 games in a row.
