Texas Woman’s gymnastics ranked 40th in GymInfo poll

Several Pioneers remain in the top three of the individual event rankings.

After mixed results in two competitions last weekend, the Texas Woman’s University Pioneers find themselves at #40 in this week’s GymInfo national poll of all NCAA Division I, II, and II college gymnastics teams.

This GymInfo rankings are based on a team’s Regional Qualifying Score (RQS). For collegiate women’s teams, an RQS is determined by averaging their six best regular season meet scores, of which three must be away. As the season winds down, the RQS and ranking takes on greater importance, as only the top 36 teams in the national rankings qualify for the NCAA Regional meets.

On Friday, February 29, TWU scored a 189.350 (their second lowest score of the season) in a dual meet at #6 Oklahoma. The Pioneers, however, shook off their struggles in Norman and came back to score a very solid 193.475 in a home meet versus Iowa on Sunday, March 2.

“It was like riding a rollercoaster - we were up (having won four meets in a row), then we were down (at OU), and then we were back up again (versus Iowa),” said TWU gymnastics head coach Frank Kudlac. “The biggest thing for us now is to be consistently good. It’s going to take a very strong final month of the season if we want to make it to regionals as a team.”

For the eighth consecutive week, TWU is ranked first in the NCAA D-II rankings and the USA Gymnastics (USAG) college rankings. The Pioneers are also the second ranked team in this week’s Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) rankings.

Additionally, several Pioneer gymnasts remain in the top three of the individual event rankings for the USAG and MIC:
