Burglar alarm software upgrade could improve Grand Prairie response
Grand Prairie recently approved a burglar alarm permit software upgrade that could improve the effectiveness of its police response.
The $173,944 purchase, with an additional $5,000 contingency, will bring the system purchased in 1997 up to date, allowing for more information to be communicated between dispatchers and responding entities. That means police and firefighters will know vital information, like whether there are animals present in the home.
The upgrade could also help limit some of the false calls the departments experience now. It is estimated that 18,000 of 21,000 burglar alarm calls this past year were false alarms.
