Dallas-based Brinker plans to open more restaurants internationally

Dallas-based Brinker announced plans to foist new Chili's on countries around the world in an attempt to compensate for sagging sales at its current restaurants.

Same-store sales at its Chili's, Maggiano's Little Italy, and On The Border franchises dropped 2.1 percent. Brinker blames high gas prices, the weak housing market, and an especially painful hangnail on its right thumb. To bolster sales and prop up its stock value, the company intends to nearly double the amount of restaurants overseas, from 172 to 300, by 2009.

Meanwhile it'll introduce "value" menu items like a bottomless troughexpress lunch with all-you-can-eat salad, soup, and chips.
