Silly people -- I always keep my fossils next to the litterbox so the cat will have something to play with.

Allison Dodd, a nine-year-old Allen girl, discovered what turned out to be an 8,000-year-old mammoth tooth in a creek way back in October 2007, but only recently did her family decide to have the tooth analyzed by an expert to determine its identity.

Where had they kept it all that time? Well, of course, on the family coffee table, along with, I'm sure, old issues of Highlights magazine and crumbs from past meals. Museum curators worldwide are now picking their jaws up off the floor. Dodd, however, is happy because, in her words, "Elephants are my favorite animals."

So does she usually start her mornings off with a plush elephant cuddlepile, or did DMN raid a Toys-R-Us to turn this into a creepy fetish video?
