North Texans named to Equality Texas board
North Texas residents Dawnetta Miller and Reed Bogle were among those elected recently as officers of the Equality Texas and Equality Texas Foundation boards of directors.
The new officers will help lead the organizations through a comprehensive strategic planning process and in preparing for the 2009 legislative session, officials said in a written statement this week.
Dawnetta Miller of Plano was elected vice chair of the boards, and Reed Bogle of Dallas was re-elected as secretary.
Miller, who joined the boards in 2007, is chair of the Collin County Gay & Lesbian Alliance’s Victory Committee.
She also serves on the board of Leadership Plano and as secretary of the Plano ISD Diversity Advocacy Committee. She is a graduate of the city of Plano’s Citizens’ Police and Fire Academies and is a regional manager in the food service industry.
Miller has begun work on her doctorate in public affairs at the University of Texas at Dallas, and she and her partner attend the Metropolitan Community Church of Greater Dallas.
Bogle has served on the boards of directors since 2004 and as secretary since 2007.
She served on the board of the Dallas Stonewall Democrats and currently serves on the advisory board of the Texas Values in Action Coalition.
She also is a board member of the Black Tie Dinner in North Texas.
Bogle is also an advocate for transgender rights and works to educate members of the gay, lesbian and bisexual community on the reality of how gender identity and gender expression affect everyone in the community.
She currently works as a freelance editor and writer.
Other officers elected at the recent meeting were Martha L. Oestreich of Kyle as chair, and Marsha Warren of San Antonio as treasurer.
Paul E. Scott is executive director of Equality Texas.
