When Christopher Kelly and I spoke briefly this afternoon at the SXSW press lounge, we marveled at the ease with which one can schedule numerous events on one's calendar for one of these dang festivals, and the difficulty in actually doing all the things one has scheduled.
SXSW Dispatch #3
More meetings in the press lounge and an interview with Richard Jenkins feature in today's events.
The Daily Texan editor gal (Claire Harlin, I think) was telling us about a panel discussion on some tech subject or other that had devolved into a virulent name-calling shouting match. Shortly thereafter some extremely slick New York looking pair (the young woman wearing some kind of designer glasses and lots of black; same for the skinny dude, sans glasses) sat down at our table and started lambasting their discussion leader - I was getting the idea that these were the persons involved in some of the shouting during the panel discussion Claire was talking about. In any case, it sounded like they'd be glad to get back to New York.
Oddly, this same Tim Burton-esque couple were walking by several hours later as I drove down from level 5 of the convention center parking garage. I expect to bump into them again at Denny's for breakfast.
In the video journal I forgot to mention that Richard Jenkins' film (which he's premiering at SXSW tonight, March 9) is called The Visitor. I screened the movie in Dallas to prepare for our talk, and although it's not kosher for me to review it yet (it opens in Dallas on May 2) I'll say this much: Mr. Jenkins won't be a familiar face without a name much longer.

The Magnetic Fields Quartet led by songwriter Stephen Merritt is resolutely "indie" so how come their music has been used in a Volvo commercial and appeared in the film Lemony Snicket? More info
