A peek at Carrollton-Farmers Branch new schools and renovation of older ones

— Carrollton-Farmers Branch La Villita Elementary School, around 87,000 square feet located in northern Irving and the western part of Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, will open in August 2008. The building, unique with exposed wood and Mediterranean styling, is a $14 million project and is around 60 percent complete.

Nancy H. Strickland Intermediate School off Fyke Road in Farmers Branch is under construction and will open this fall. The new intermediate school will house third through fifth grades, while McLaughlin Elementary will house Pre-Kindergarten through second grades. The $14.9 million building is about 75,000 square feet.

Creekview High School, 10 years old, has grown to its full capacity. Updates on the present facility, which amounts to $12 million, include classroom spaces, fine arts and athletics. Construction started last fall and completion is scheduled for late 2008.

Sheffield Primary and Furneaux Elementary are receiving minor updates, which include a small classroom wing addition and a brand new office suite. Construction should be complete by the end of this school year.

Major renovation will begin this spring on Country Place Elementary and is a $7.7 million project. Updates will include classroom spaces, a new cafeteria and kitchen along with a new entrance and office spaces.

Blalack Middle School is a $9.5 million project which will include expansion specifically in athletics and fine arts facilities. Planning is complete and construction will start this spring.
