MBS Productions will be presenting the world premiere of Dante: Inferno from April 10 - May 3, yet they still haven't found the right actor to play Dante.

The classic story follows Dante and his guided journey into the deep recesses of hell. As he voyages through each circle, going deeper into the earth, he encounters a myriad of damned souls; and as he witnesses their ghastly punishments he learns the cause of their torment. As he travels further, he also encounters obstacles that might trap him for an eternity.

In search for the title character, Mark-Brian Sonna just wrote this:

The thing is I've gone through 2 actors in less then 1 week. They freak out at the material. I have had actors come and read for the part and think it is lighter fare then what it is. They then freak out at how intense the play is. Let's face it, the source material is pretty strong. There is nothing in the play that we are doing that differs from the book. Some of the translations out there are a bit archaic, and difficult to read, so people have had a hard time understanding what all happens in the book. Maybe because my translation is accurate and I've made it understandable people now do realize how adult the book is?

Let's face it, there is a reason these souls are in hell: the committed some heinous crimes. Their punishments befit their actions. This play is not a walk in the park. It's provocative, terrifying, and visceral. And while I've had strong advance ticket sales for this show and lots of people want to come see it, many actors are afraid to tackle such strong stuff. I almost want to put it out as a challenge: Is there an actor in Dallas brave enough to do he role of Dante?

If you are up to the task, they are looking for men any race, ages 20-40. Actors interested must set up an appointment time by contact Mark-Brian Sonna at 214-477-4942 or by emailing him at info@mark-briansonna.com. The play contains adult themes and nudity (not required for the role of Dante). The show is currently in rehearsals and auditions will be held Tuesday-Thursday, March 11-13.

They are also looking for Stage Manager/ AD for the production. Both positions receive stipend and profit share.
