Sloppyworld's "Rocktopus" mural always looked a little bitter, and now we know why.
It looks as though the latest upstart music venue in Expo Park has been shut down. According to a MySpace bulletin (via UP), Sloppyworld, John Freeman's vision-made-reality, was paid a visit by five cops and a code enforcement official just before their show scheduled for Tuesday night. Freeman is now asking for help from anyone with experience putting together Certificates of Occupancy and other building permit paperwork to give the venue a chance at reopening... anyone who didn't work with the Monkey Bar, Tomcats...
While Freeman hopes for a quick revival, this mess puts the Negativland concert, scheduled for April 20, in jeopardy. The bulletin, however, assures that the show will go on. When and where, now that's another issue altogether.

Hey, "Mike Orren", at least we had a few awesome shows that wouldn't have happened at any other venue in Dallas that I can think of. I guess my sense of "punk rock DIY" just got the best of me. Sorry for trying. It ain't over 'til the city councilman sings... -John Freeman

John, I was speaking purely from a legal perspective. I'd love to see your place thrive.

Wow, AND THANKS FOR NOTHING, RED TAPE RAPISTS...
I'm just throwing it out there, but maybe it's not the best idea to label people who have the authority to shut you down rapists...especially when you have to go through them to reopen.

Dear Scott Doyle: I was just being ironic. And to Mike Orren, I meant no disrespect. This whole thing has my panties in a bunch. Thanks for the support. -JF

Looks like the death knell is indeed final, and John Freeman has a wicked-cool new gig:

Interestingly enough, I don't see the 'red tape racists' comment anymore. Thought it was simply irony, Mr. Freeman?
