Denton County city election slates set

Argyle, Double Oak, Highland Village, and Flower Mound will have actual races to vote on.

Argyle voters will have a choice this May, as all three town council candidates have challengers.

In Place 1, Joey Hasty is running against incumbent Mark Bogosian. Jayne Marshall will defend her Place 3 board seat against Dona Schroetke. In Place 5, David McSwain is challenging incumbent Joe Phelps.

Six candidates are vying for three seats on the Double Oak Town Council. Sam Rogers, Tom Pidcock, former Mayor Dick Cook, Tracy Miller, Lewis Lowe and incumbent John Dondrea have thrown their hat into the ring.

Council members David Mize and Lissa McCarthy did not file for re-election.

In Highland Village, there is a three-way race for mayor, as Dianne Costa is being challenged by former council member Fred Busche and 18-year old Gene Costa (no relation to Dianne).

Council members Don Combs, Louis Robichaux and Scott McDearmont will run unopposed for re-election to their respective board seats.

Flower Mound residents will keep Mayor Jody Smith, who is running unopposed, but two board seats are up for grabs.

Steve Dixon is challenging incumbent Al Filidoro in Place 2.

In Place 4, Virginia M. Jellison and Jean M. Levenick want to fill Laurie Long's council seat. Long announced last month that she will not run for re-election.

Bartonville and Copper Canyon residents have signaled their satisfaction with the status quo, as only the incumbents have filed for office.

Mayor Ron Robertson, along with council members Wayne Hoyt and Ryan Litherland, filed for re-election in Bartonville.

In Copper Canyon, current town council members Steven Hill, John Brothers and Dan Christy have filed to run again.

"I am delighted that the town's residents have honored the efforts of these three men and have asked them to serve as Council Members an additional term," said Copper Canyon Mayor Sue Tejml.

A similar situation exists with the Denton school board contests.

Jim Alexander, 61, is running unopposed for re-election in Place 6, while Rudy Rodriguez, 67, has filed to run for the Place 7 seat being vacated by Virginia Gallian.

If no one files to be a write-in candidate by March 17, the towns and school district will not have to hold an election on May 10th.
