McKinney ISD, police, fire, and EMTs to conduct emergency drill

This is only a drill. A real emergency will look nothing like this.

The McKinney Independent School District, in partnership with the McKinney Fire Department, Police Department and Medical Center of McKinney is coordinating an emergency exercise on Saturday, March 15 at McKinney North High School. The drill serves as practice for real-life emergency scenarios. Resources of people (MISD, MPD, MFD, Medical Center of McKinney, Red Cross, and others), fire engines, police cars, care-flight, and ambulances will be used.

"The exercise helps us prepare our emergency responders for a real-life emergency situation," said McKinney Emergency Management Coordinator Karen Adkins. "It is important for the community, particularly the residents who live close to the exercise scene and the media, to know that this is only a drill."

Student and parent actors will also be involved in the mock mass casualty incident, complete with make-up applied as injuries. A full-scale parent information center will be set up at Vega Elementary School in order to practice the District's crisis communication and grief response plans. Observers will not have access inside the exercise area during the drill. Streets in and around the exercise area could be closed, so drivers should be prepared for detours.
