Saturday's biggest bash

In case you didn't realize, it's a holiday weekend! If you want to drink Jameson or dance a jig, check with us first to find the Irish-themed fun closest to you. If beer that's green is not your scene, we've got plenty of tips on other cool things to do.

Metro

West and Clear points out that nearly a third of Tarrant County gas wells haven't been inspected and urges citizen input on passenger rail plans. Capitol Annex cracks wise about Governor Rick Perry's appointment of a teetotaling Colleyville resident to the TABC. Lantana Links brings news of Denton County's May municipal elections. McKinneyNews.net reports the FBI has gotten involved with a bank robbery investigation. Dallas Progress and Dallas South add reflections on the loss of husband and wife Rufus Shaw and Lynn Flint-Shaw, who died in a chilling murder-suicide.

Tunes

It's a live music-lover's extravabonzo in north Texas this weekend, with dozens of acts making local stops en route to SXSW in Austin. We have tons of new additions to our local music database. Pegas-user Joni Hutchinson also reviewed Onomatopoeia by Roy Bennett. Colleyville has a bluesy new holiday. Finally, Dallas' top instrumental trio Shibboleth inked a recording contract.

The Biz

The FBI is investigating Countrywide now. ACS and Parkland are teaming up. The Dallas Logistics Hub is in the zone. Redevelopment plans have been announced for Texas Stadium. Also, Allstate is bringing pain to an Arlington chiropractor.

Dining

TG reviews a traditional candy bar with a raspberry twist. A steak and sushi restaurant is expanding from Addison to the West End, and Frisco is getting Brazilian churrascaria. An esteemed Spanish tapas bar closed in Dallas. Finally, Best Bites visits with a new Vietnamese place that brings pho to Richardson and also reveals a change of hands at a popular Uptown Mexican hang.

We got game

This week Todd's Cupcheck is a moving paean to Steve Ott. The Mavericks pounded inferior teams from North Carolina and New York. D210 was there when Josh Howard went bowling. Two locals were also inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame (hint: one played football, the other hockey).

Stage and Scene

Mark-Brian Sonna reviews the opera Tosca. The Column announced their 9th annual award winners. New content partner Gay List Daily captures the glory of taking a class in glass blowing in Grapevine. Think featured author Robert Rummel-Hudson and the current show at Photographs Do Not Bend. Then author Anne Lamott sold out a Thursday night appearance at First Presbyterian Church (Dallas) as part of the DMA's Arts and Letters Live series.

Flix

Film Guy John Meyer has been at SXSW in Austin all week long. Relive the festival virtually through his coverage, and start planning for AFI Dallas. Or, just check our review of The Counterfeiters.

• Ghostland Observatory performs on the Greenville Avenue St. Patrick's Day Parade route.
• Continue your Greenville Avenue St. Patty's day festivities at the Granada. Free bands and cheap drinks all day, and then The English Beat headlines an evening show.
• Enjoy family-friendly drumming and dancing outdoors.
• Spend an evening with homegirl Erykah Badu at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters.
• Yo La Tengo stops by the DMA's newly renovated Horchow Auditorium for an intimate acoustic evening.

Sunday:

• Not your usual charity fundraiser -- this benefit in Lake Dallas includes a motorcycle stunt show
• If you like the Magnetic Fields or Morrissey, try Jens Lekman at the Granada.
• The Turtle Creek Chorale's one-act opera about the day of Oscar Wilde's arrest, Night Passage, has its Dallas premiere at the Meyerson.
