Man robs Flower Mound pharmacy, takes 800 Oxycontin pills
A man held up the Flower Mound Pharmacy & Herbal Alternatives on Cross Timbers Road at gunpoint on Wednesday morning and made off with nearly 800 pills of OxyContin, a powerful painkiller.
The suspect is described as a white male in his 20's, about 5'9", 175 lbs with brown hair. He was wearing a desert tan camouflage style ball cap and jacket, gray or brown "Dickies" style work pants, prescription style eye glasses and was clean shaven.
Police said that they believe the man drove off in a silver Toyota two door car with a spoiler on the back. The license plates on the car - TX Z75-PWZ - were reported stolen off another vehicle in Lewisville.
OxyContin thefts are becoming more common around the country, according to law enforcement officials. The time-released drug is used to treat pain from injuries, arthritis and cancer. If crushed and then snorted, swallowed or injected, the prescription drug produces a heroin-like high.
The street value of the stolen drugs is estimated to be between $52,000 and $64,000.
