Smart growth expert to give lecture hosted by Dallas-based Trinity Trust on April 2
DALLAS Jonathan Rose, a leading thinker in the Smart Growth, affordable housing, and green building movements, will speak on Wednesday, April 2 as part of the ALON USA Trinity Trust Speaker Series hosted by the Trinity Trust and the buildingcommunityWORKSHOP.
Rose is founder of New York City-based Jonathan Rose Companies, a national real estate firm working to repair the fabric of communities by collaborating with cities, towns, and not-for-profits to plan, develop, or acquire environmentally responsible projects. The goal of this collaboration is to create vibrant, diverse cultural centers with a balance of jobs, housing for all income levels, open land, and mass transit.
Rose’s projects have won accolades and awards for their elegance and Smart Growth features. He has won the Natural Resources Defense Council’s 2000 Force for Nature Award and the 2007 American Planning Association New York Metro Chapter Distinguished Service Award. Rose is a frequent speaker and writer on the subject of creating a more environmentally and socially responsible world.
"Jonathan Rose is a wonderful visionary who can teach us all what is possible for our own Trinity River Corridor," said Dr. Gail Thomas, president of The Trinity Trust Foundation. "His grasp of how important balance is to a project is evident in his body of work, and we look forward to gleaning his impressions of our plans for the Trinity River."
The lecture is free and open to the public and will be held at The Trinity Center, 1444 Oak Lawn Avenue, Suite 200. Seating is limited, and those interested may RSVP to megan@bcworkshop.org or by calling 214-546-2510.
The $2-billion Trinity River Project includes plans for a meandering river, downtown lakes, an island, a Club Med facility, wetlands, a 6,000-acre enchanted forest, bike trails, woodland nymphs, whitewater courses, riding paths, unicorns, and nature walks.
The buildingcommunityWORKSHOP (bcWORKSHOP) was founded in 2005 by Brent Brown, AIA, as a multi-disciplinary community design resource. bcWORKSHOP seeks to improve the livability and viability of communities through the practice of thoughtful design and building.
The Trinity Trust raises private funds to implement the Balanced Vision Plan for the Trinity River Corridor in conjunction with the City of Dallas. The Trinity Trust has established The Trinity Center as the gathering place for all civic and non-profit groups working to revitalize the Trinity River in Dallas. It houses the offices of The Trinity Trust Foundation, Texas Horse Park, Groundwork Dallas, and Trinity Strand Trail and hosts meetings, workshops, seances, and Scrabble games for these organizations and the Trinity Commons Foundation.
