I'm returning to Dallas in the a.m. (Sat., March 16) because a) the film festival ends tomorrow, and b) I'm out of clean clothes.
SXSW Dispatch #8
Celebrating the end of a week of film coverage with a beverage
Not to mention the fact that I miss my Sweetie, my cat and my bed. Not necessarily in that order (except for the first one).
I'd like to get it on the record that people here in Austin - both the festival crew and just the population in general - are some of the friendliest, most accommodating folks I've encountered anywhere. In that they're very similar to North Texans, only weirder.
While I'd like to have seen more films, I'm quite pleased to have seen the ones I saw. Next time I do one of these things (assuming I talk myself into it again) I'll have a clearer concept of the way things work and can avoid some of the logistical pitfalls. Such as hopping on the 1L bus at the North Lamar station and expecting it to go south, when in fact it was on its way to far north BFE Austin before looping back, thereby making it quite an iffy proposition for me to actually make it to the Paramount in time to catch Assassination of a High School President.
The fact that I arrived with 10 minutes to spare is a testament both to the skillful driving of the bus captain and my psychic control over his accelerator foot in instances where he might otherwise have stopped for a yellow light.
Hasta la vista, Austin.
