Dallas Mavericks 98, Miami Heat 73

The Dallas Mavericks continued their tear through the dregs of the Eastern Conference Sunday night, posting another too-easy 98-73 win over the ludicrously pathetic Miami Heat. With the Mavericks leading 35-12 after the first quarter, it seemed both teams wanted the game (and, in Miami's case, likely the entire season) to be over with as quickly as possible, and little else of note happened the rest of the way.

The win improved the Mavs to 44-23, still just seventh in the Western Conference, but just two and a half games out of the top spot in the West. The Mavericks' next three games --against the Lakers, Celtics and Spurs-- should provide a more accurate picture of where the Mavs stand among the league's elite than the stiffs they've been brutalizing in the past week.

Dallas was led by Dirk Nowitzki, who scored 21 points in 25 easy minutes, shooting 7-of-11 from the floor. Josh Howard had 15 points and 6 boards, while offensive catalyst Jason Kidd had an understated game, with 5 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in just 23 minutes.

Coming off the bench, Brandon Bass and Jason Terry added 14 points apiece, as the bench got some good minutes in with the starters resting so much.
