Cellphone purchased at Dallas pawn shop had child porn

Email Print Tell us your story Comments (6)

A guy bought a cellphone from a Top Dollar Pawn Superstore, took it home, tried to learn its features, and discovered it had a child pornography video on it. Police said the video shows a man performing a sex act with a girl who appears to be about 3 years old, and they're trying to track down the previous owner.

Why would you store illegal stuff on your phone? It's like the classic story of your mom telling you to always wear clean underwear because you never know when you might be in a car wreck.

Just as I'm sure anyone that keeps that kind of stuff, they probably never expected to lose ownership of it. I bet the real previous owner had the phone stolen, and the thief pawned it - not really knowing or caring what was on it. Either way, pretty sorry stuff.

I dunno, James. Someone who finds pleasure in chilluns probably isn't the most rational person.

And I bet cell phone thieves who hear about this make it a point to check from now on. =p Stealing a phone is one thing, distributing kiddie porn...much worse.

Also, sexual assault division doesn't sound nearly as cool as Special Victims Unit. Plus, SAD vs SVU is a no-brainer.

Love me some Law & Order. =)

I'm pretty sure there is an SVU episode where almost this exact thing happens. Police get some digital evidence, enhance it, and find the bad guy. Luckily for this guy, Ice-T won't be hunting him down.

But back to the topic, I would assume that any place that resells gadgets would have them wiped clean, phones and cameras and whatnot. Guess they assume the original owner would take care of that.

Looks like there's an update to this story

Looks like the SAD does a pretty good job, even with a bad name.
