— As a reporter charged with covering the wealth of events going on in the Best Southwest, I always get a good laugh when somebody tells me there’s nothing to do.

Yeah, there’s so much nothing this time of year my head is spinning. While there a lot of events I have to go to, there are others you couldn’t keep me out with an armed security detail. And some of you have tried. The Fifth Annual Taste of Duncanville and Community Spotlight is the kind of thing I never miss. Duncanville High School is the place to be for the Taste, March 20 from 5-8 p.m. Seniors can take advantage of a special hour head start from 4-5 p.m.

Chamber President Lynn McGinley said the move from the Hilton Garden Inn to DHS is to have more parking space and room for a rapidly growing event. The Taste expects to see 1,500 people sampling the wares of 60 vendors, a number significantly up from last year. That list includes companies like Chick-Fil-A, La Mexicana Tortilla Factory and Subway. With more people attending and more vendors participating, the chamber is stepping its game up too.

There will be a raffle to win a 2008 Chevrolet HHR. Raffle tickets are $100 and available at the chamber office. That’s right folks, Lynn McGinley is channeling Oprah Winfrey and someone will get a car.

The raffle will support chamber efforts to raise funds for a pair of banner poles on Cedar Ridge. Those poles will carry banners advertising various events in the city.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. Children under 5 get in free. McGinley said attendees should buy their tickets beforehand at the chamber or Champions Cove to avoid lengthy lines at the door. For more information call 972-780-4990 or visit the Duncanville Chamber website.
