The diligent staff of UTD Radio, The University of Texas at Dallas' best (and only) student-run radio show, will be interviewing Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez, live, on Thursday evening, March 20.
Sheriff Valdez riding through Dallas on one of the county's new mobile-assault-equine-attack vehicles.
The 6:00 p.m. interview, which will be broadcast online (http://radio.utdallas.edu/) as well as throughout the school's Student Union, celebrates Women's Month, as does an open-mic night later in the evening at the campus Pub.
Valdez—who recently successfully sidestepped a run-off for her current re-election bid—will be interviewed regarding challenges that she has faced as a female in two male-dominated fields: politics and law enforcement.
She is the only female sheriff in Texas, the only openly gay sheriff in the state, and the only Hispanic female sheriff in the U.S.
