Popular Park Cities shopping strip at Mockingbird and US-75 in Dallas will be razed for Bush Library

12

Cannibalizing every square foot in its path, the Bush Library will raze the strip center at the northwest corner of Mockingbird and US-75. As the leases expire, they won't be replaced; the process is expected to take a few years. This shopping center is not only convenient geographically, but also has a very handy CVS, a Starbucks very popular with college students, and the original branch of La Madeleine. Many a Plano resident who was heading south on US-75 and wanted to stop in to quickly pick up a coffee beverage could be seen stopping at that Starbucks. Not such a fan of the Roly Poly Sandwich shop or the overpriced ice-cream-cookie place, but that Horchow Finale occasionally had some pretty good items. Sigh.

Blast it all, this shameless stubborn myopic fool is so hell bent on securing his legacy of incompetence, I can only hope that crooked incompetent contractors are awarded the contract and the whole damned structure collapses on dedication day.

Chris Olson, says:

Wonder why the agreement for the library wanted that center to go even though the land will have nothing to do with the library. Sucks for students and locals.

But SMU owns the land, they can do whatever they want with it. I'd imagine a nice parking lot is in order since it's next to the stadium.

Well, I guess the land will be used to replace whatever is where the library will go. Probably should've guessed that.

John McClelland, says:

I wouldn't think that this library would need all that much room, considering most of the books will only have pictures.

Andrew, says:

Actually John, most of those books come with a related stuffed toy (i.e. Velveteen Rabbit) which increases the necessary shelf space 4 or 5 times. Also, you cannot have coloring books without Crayons. Being SMU, you know that they will not cheap out with the off brands or 4 count packs. We are talking the 64 count Crayola box with the built in sharpener. All of this adds up to a large amount of square footage.

Im kind of curious if they'll be storytime every wednesday with Grandpa Dick telling about the time he shot his friend in the fact or how he sold out peoples futures when he worked at halliburton just to make a fast buck.

Glad to see we are all on the same page... Thanks to all for the grin-provoking-comments, tho it would all be much funnier if this was happening in ...say New York City, D.C. or anyplace but here.

A tragedy is always funnier when it's not happening in your own backyard.

I hear Crayola is inventing a new color for the 64-crayon boxes going into the Bush Liberry:

Blood Red

Perhaps the recognition of those awesome new colors will influence the decision regarding the theme color of the building itself.... Outside, of course: Blood Red Brick. Everything Inside: Lie-lac latex.

... I feel a new Crayola contest coming on to re-name the colors to cement his legacy 64 different ways.
