DALLAS The Rosewood Crescent Hotel is partnering with retailers and restaurants in The Crescent Complex to present the second annual Crescent Spring Celebration on Thursday, April 17, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The event will take place in The Crescent Courtyard and benefits Big Thought, a non-profit learning partnership that inspires, empowers and unites children and communities through education, arts and culture.
The celebration will feature food, wine, art, entertainment and fun including:
Fashions by Stanley Korshak, art exhibit, food and wine tastings, mini-spa experiences, cookoffs, live music from Max Vontaine and Emerald City, and a silent auction featuring such items as trips to Rosewood properties in California and the Caribbean, works of art, and -- get this -- a Labrador Retriever puppy. Does anyone else think it's kind of weird and possibly a bit inhumane that they are auctioning off a puppy?
Guests can sample culinary treats from Rosewood Crescent Hotel's award-winning culinary team, as well as Nobu Dallas, Palomino, and Capital Grille at chef stations positioned throughout the courtyard. Joining the Crescent-based chefs are chefs from other Rosewood property restaurants, including Chef Luca Rutigliano from CordeValle, A Rosewood Resort in San Martin, Calif., and Chef John Tesar from Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek.
Caroline Rose Hunt, founder of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, serves as the honorary chair of Crescent Spring Celebration. Tickets are $75 per person, which are 100% tax deductible. To make reservations, call 866 228 3243. More information on the event can be found at the Web site.

Auctioning puppies is so, so wrong. The HSUS has spoken out against it; info here: http://www.hsus.org/pets/issues_affec...

Auctioning a puppy. I suppose, after watching an episode of The Bachelor, I should not be surprised that dogs go to the highest public bidder. Is it Happy Hour yet?
PS while we’re gagging: Oprah has now announced that she is opposed to Puppy Mill breeders and 'will only adopt rescues in the future'. (She currently has 5 pedigreed hounds having just buried her 6th Sophie to whom she dedicates her show on Friday). Her guest in Friday 4th, Lisa Ling (formerly of The View) has an expose documentary short about the breeding business of American dogs and this has made Oprah (duh) see the light. Whatever it takes. Whatever.....

Oprah was petitioned to do the show by a group called Main Line. http://www.mlar.org/advocacy/puppy-mills
Lots of great info on that site, and here as well: http://www.network.bestfriends.org/tr...
I especially love this PDF that defines a puppy mill/backyard breeder, which by the way, is where these charity puppies come from. No reputable breeder (and they do exist!!) would let a dog of theirs be auctioned off to the highest bidder. http://www.network.bestfriends.org/Li...
I am rolling my eyes at Oprah's newfound sympathy as well BUT I ultimately hope this will be a good thing. I did see an article today that said "Oprah adopted her current dogs from breeders" (emphasis mine). News flash, Oprah, you buy dogs from breeders, not adopt them.
By the way I'm not affiliated with any of these groups - just a hard working animal rescuer myself, specializing in dachshunds. :)
