New on DVD: The Mist, The Kite Runner and Them

0

Frank Darabont turns Stephen King story even darker. (Yes, it's possible.)

Out on DVD this week (March 25) are a trio of films reviewed previously on these pages.

First up is my pick for most otherworldly horror film of 2007, director Frank Darabont's pitch dark treatment of the Stephen King novella, The Mist. Darabont rewrote the ending to make it even darker. (And that's pretty dark, trust me.)

Next we have The Kite Runner, a tale of friendship, cowardice and heroism in Afghanistan that spans a generation during which that country has remained enmeshed in the turmoil of war. But the larger story takes a back seat to the more personal one.

And finally, we obtained an advance screener copy of Them, a French production set in Romania which chronicles the terror-filled home invasion experience of a young couple who just want to spend some quiet time together in their country estate. Tough luck, you two.
