Recently-closed Alfredo Trattoria space on Lemmon Avenue to become Tex-Mex place

6

— Alfredo Trattoria, the Italian restaurant on Lemmon Avenue near-ish Inwood Road, shut down last week, as noted by Joyce. The space is being taken over by one of the members of the Mia's Tex-Mex clan (according to a reliable member of the clan who asked not to be named), who will re-open it as a Tex-Mex place, probably called Casablanca.

So we've got Manny's at Lemmon and Oak Grove, Mi Cocina at Lemmon and McKinney, Mia's at Lemmon near Wycliff, and now another Mia's clone at Lemmon and Dorothy? Pretty soon they're going to be cutting into Love Field.

Casablanca? Why not something a little more TexMex, like, say, Marrakech or Tetuan?

Yes, Casa Blanca does indeed mean "White House" in Spanish. But Casablanca is generally used to identify the city in Morocco. (Kind of like Baton Rouge meaning "Red Stick" in French, but it is usually used to identify the capital of Louisiana.)

Why would anyone name a Tex Mex restaurant Casablanca? Probably someone who missed a geography question on Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader! When I associate Casablanca and restaurant, it takes me to Cambridge, MA. Excellent!

My husband and I visited Casablanca over the weekend and I have to say the food and the service went above and beyond my expectations. I ordered a special of two jalapeno porkchops rice and beans along with a side salad & a mango pico de gallo they were very juicy and flavorful, my husband ordered two plump beef fajitas gorditas that were to die for. All of the food had a burst of flavor to them. The table sauces are a neon green color with a tangy yet spicy flavor. they also serve an additional dark, mahogany, rustic looking salsa that is sooo good! And last but not least anyone who loves maragaritas like me has to come here they are spectacular!!! I recommend this restaurant to everyone and the atmosphere is very nice and pleasing.
