Denton County putting on “First Step” 1 mile/5k fun walk/run

Every year, the Denton County Health Department takes the first week in April to celebrate National Public Health Week and raise awareness about the importance of public health.

Generally most running or walking styles will be allowed, within reason.

Generally most running or walking styles will be allowed, within reason.

To kick off this year's National Public Health Week, the city is inviting all citizens and city employees Denton County employees to partake in an annual 1 mile/5k fun walk/run. The theme is "Take the First Step...Get Up, Get Out and Get Active".

The run/walk is a free event for the entire community that encourages people to get up and get moving and not be fat.

Date: April 5, 2008

Time: 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.

Location: South Lake (Eureka) Park - 2300 Teasley Lane, Denton, TX 76205

To register, contact Betsy Haggard at 940-349-2922 or betsy.haggard@dentoncounty.com. Race Day Registration will take place at the park from 7:15am-7:45am.

Prizes will be awarded in various categories, including children under 10, teens 11-18, adult men and adult women.

Free t-shirts will be given on first-come, first-serve basis, fatty.
