Plano-based Bennigan’s opened first branch in the Bahamas

Mac & curotolos are quite a bit cheesier than the usual mac & cheese.

Plano-based Bennigan's has opened its first restaurant in the Bahamas, in the Marathon Mall in Nassau; it's the 52nd international location of Bennigan's.

Bahamians are undoubtedly proud that their Bennigan's has the largest Bennigan's bar across the globe. I mean, partner, there's some bragging rights. It also has a draft beer system -- the first casual dining restaurant in Nassau to bring draft beer to the region. Wow, so up until now, Bahamians had only bottled beer?

It's the first Bennigan's for a franchise group called Casual Dining Restaurants, presidented by Chris Mortimer, who said that "a lot of Bahamians travel to Florida where Bennigan's has a strong presence, so they've really taken to having the brand in their own backyard."

In addition to the regular, super-delicious Bennigan's menu, this branch also serves "local Bahamian-flavored side dishes like Macaroni and Cheese and Peas and Rice, and Fried Conch Minis are a new addition to the entrée menu". Mac & cheese, Bahamian -- who knew.

On behalf of my fellow Texans, I want to send a sincere apology to the fine people of the Bahamas for this turd that is about to be upon you.

From thebahamasguide.com:

"A typical Bahamian meal consists of crab and rice, delicious steamed fish, served with baked macaroni and cheese and a good helping of potato salad. This is followed by desserts such as coconut or pineapple tart, bread pudding or guava duff, a delicious dessert that is made through a laborious process of folding the fruit into the dough and boiling and is served with a sauce. This meal is topped off with a large glass of ice cold "switcha" (lemon, sugar and water mixture) or beer. Such a typical meal also explains why their are so many Bahama Mama's and why heart disease and diabetes is so rampant in the Bahamas."

Sounds like Bennigans will fit right in!

I share xdavidwattsx's sentiments. Do they air horrible commercials over there, too?
