The Dallas Symphony Orchestra presents the film The Wizard of Oz with original voice audio accompanied by a live symphonic musical score, sponsored by AFI Dallas.
When released in 1939, The Wizard of Oz was nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture. It eventually went on to win golden statues for Best Music in the Original Score and Original Song categories. Master Director Victor Fleming, who is responsible for such cinematic giants as Gone With the Wind and Joan of Arc, was also nominated for the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival, which, is the famed French festival's highest honor.
"To see a film in a performance hall such as the Meyerson, with live orchestral accompaniment, is to see it in its ancestral environment, where the idea began as opera. There is no other way to better experience the majesty of cinema and one rarely thinks of film the same after such an event. We look forward to holding this type of screening here in Fort Worth and hope that our members and supporters will take advantage of this unique opportunity to see a timeless classic and support the Lone Star Film Society," says Director of Programming, Alec Jhangiani.
A cocktail reception with special guests will precede the screening and many of our friends from the AFI Dallas International Film Festival will be there to share in the experience. AFI Dallas is one of Lone Star's largest community partners and we are thrilled at the opportunity to share this special night with them. Tickets are going fast, so please see the attached flyer for more details and convenient purchasing options.
