The Nuggets were devastating in the second half

The Dallas Mavericks once again snatched defeat from the jaws of victory Thursday night, blowing a ten-point halftime lead to the Nuggets in a 118-105 loss in Denver. Outscored 58-35 in the second half, the Mavs allowed the 44-28 Nuggets to come within a single game of Dallas in the Western Conference standings. The Mavs currently are at 45-27, and in serious danger of missing out on the playoffs entirely.

The loss was the ninth straight against a winning team since Jason Kidd joined the team, and dropped the Mavs to 1-1 since Dirk Nowitzki went down with a leg injury. Kidd had a good statistical game, with 19 points, 15 assists and five steals, but once again the Mavs could not defeat a team with a winning record.

Josh Howard ably filled the void Nowitzki left, scoring 30 points with 12-of-24 shooting, while Jerry Stackhouse had an excellent game for him with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
