Rowlett will mow less this summer to save money and environment
ROWLETT In an effort to reduce the amount of fuel emissions, labor, and time spent on mowing medians and city property, the city of Rowlett will mow less this spring and summer.
Historically, the city has always mowed median strips and rights of way on a "30-cycle" season; but this year’s maintenance will consist of 20 mowing cycles, i.e. 10 less mows during the summer than previously.
Tim Hightshoe, Parks Maintenance Supervisor, said these efforts would save time, money, and be more conscious of the environment. Maintenance crews will keep an eye out for fast-growing areas and give them an extra mow if necessary.
Rowlett residents are asked to be understanding of the change, and report any vegetation growth in intersections that causes them to become blinded and plow erratically into other cars.
Property owners adjacent to the right of way are going to be responsible now for maintenance out to the roadway. In previous years, Rowlett maintenance would come out and mow from the property line to the roadway. No more. (For proof, consult Chapter 22 of the Environmental ordinances. Sec 22-121.)
The city requests that residents not go off on a wild tear if they see slightly longer grass. If they wish to show solidarity, then by all means, they are welcome to consider growing beards, mustaches, or even goatees, as long as they're not too precisely trimmed.
