— The American Cancer Society Relay For Life (RFL) McKinney is selling luminarias to be displayed at the McKinney Relay on April 25 at the Ballfields at Craig Ranch, 6151 Alma Road.

Luminarias are purchased by friends and family to honor cancer survivors and the memory of those who have lost their battle to cancer. Luminaria bags are filled with a candle and line the track during Relay. Bags are adorned with the name of the person being honored and can also include a photo and/or personal message.

"The Luminaria Ceremony, which takes place at dusk the night of Relay, is the soul of the event," said RFL McKinney Luminaria Co-Chair Martha Duncan. "We quietly remember those whose lives have been touched by cancer. Candles in white, purple and gold tribute bags line the track, and in the glow of the candlelight, we reflect on the courage and strength of all who are affected by cancer."

You can remember someone who lost his or her battle to cancer, or honor someone winning the fight, by purchasing a luminaria. Standard bags are $10, Relay Purple bags are $25 and Gold Tribute bags are $50. All bags can be personalized with a photo and/or message and will include the name of the person being honored.

To purchase a luminaria, visit the Web site or contact Martha Duncan or Maggie Thompson at 972-540-5477 or mckinneyluminarias@tx.rr.com. Luminarias will also be available for purchase during the RFL McKinney Paint The Town Purple Rally, Saturday, March 29 at 11:30 a.m. on the north steps of the McKinney Performing Arts Center, 111 N. Tennessee Street.
