Copper Canyon celebrates 35th birthday April 20

Copper Canyon, located approximately six miles west of Lewisville and bordered by Highland Village, Flower Mound, Double Oak, Bartonville and Argyle, is having a 35th birthday party April 20 from 3 – 6 p.m. at Town Hall, 400 Woodland Drive.

The party is made possible by many volunteers and six $500-special donors who are:

• Terry Welch and wife Mary Claire
• Steve Hill and wife Jessica

“Copper Canyon is still an old-fashioned town with neighbors knowing neighbors and the birthday party is celebrating our community spirit,” said Copper Canyon Mayor Sue Tejml. “Copper Canyon runs on volunteers and volunteers are putting on this celebration.

“Awards will be given, recognizing town’s people who have served their fellow residents for many years.”

For the children, a bounce house for age 6 years and under, as well as age 7 – 12 years, will be provided, along with snow cones and kettle popcorn. Rides on an Argyle Volunteer Fire Department fire engine and red plastic firefighter’s hats and coloring books on fire safety will be provided by the fire department.

For American soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan, freedom pens with an individual personal message of thanks and encouragement attached will be made as you watch. To find out more about freedom wooden ballpoint pens and to see a variety of them, go to this website.

Food gift certificates will be given away every 30 minutes to the RSVP names, therefore, all residents are encouraged to RSVP so that an accurate amount of food can be prepared and the proper amount of chairs and tables can be set up.

A portable barbeque pit will be set up and fajitas, flour tortillas, beans and homemade salsa and chips will be served. An assortment of side dishes will be brought, and donated pies and cakes will be sold. There will be a cookie contest – residents are encouraged to bring a “baker’s dozen” plastic bag of cookies – the 13th cookie is for a judge to taste and judge for blue ribbon prizes. Historical displays will be available and recognition for town’s people who have made genuine contributions to the betterment of Copper Canyon will receive special granite plaques.
