The Real Estate Council celebrates 20th annual FightNight
DALLAS The Real Estate Council Foundation will host TREC FightNight 2008: Twenty Years in the Ring on Thursday, May 1 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel, Chantilly Ballroom. More than 1,800 guests will attend this festive black-tie benefit with cocktails, dinner, several rounds of boxing and local celebrity sightings.
TREC FightNight Chairman Steve Modory of Champion Partners, said, “The Real Estate Council will continue its tradition of raising more than $1.5 million in one night for community redevelopment. An added emphasis for this year’s event is ‘Who are we fighting for?’ to remind people that in addition to a fun evening, the funds raised help children, families and organizations in our community create safer neighborhoods, build affordable housing and community centers, and develop positive after-school programs.”
TREC FightNight is the commercial real estate industry’s largest area networking fundraiser. Last year FightNight raised $1.5 million, bringing the total funds raised to more than $16 million for the foundation since 1989.
The Real Estate Council Foundation raises funds through their two signature events, FightNight and Fall Gala. These funds are paired with the pro bono technical expertise of TREC members and are used for community redevelopment including affordable housing, educational initiatives, neighborhood and park improvements, job creation and infrastructure. TREC Foundation has helped more than 80 agencies and neighborhood development corporations, including St. Philip’s School and Community Center, Forest Heights Neighborhood Development Corporation, Builders of Hope, Habitat for Humanity, Dallas City Homes, Dallas Housing Authority, Pinkston High School and more.
Past celebrity boxers have included Larry Holmes, Smokin’ Joe Frazier, Evander Holyfield, Hasim Rahman, Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard and Lennox Lewis. Notable guests such as Troy Aikman, George W. Bush, and Roger Staubach have attended TREC FightNight. In 1992 a 12-year-old named LeAnn Rimes sang the national anthem to open the event.
