DALLAS Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP is proud to congratulate Intellectual Property partner Kay Schwartz on successfully completing the 2008 Boston Marathon.
Ms. Schwartz, who competed in the women’s 45-50 division, completed the race in a time of 4:06:55, averaging 9:25 per mile over the famed 26.2-mile course.
“I’m sure I speak not only for her Gardere colleagues, but also for everyone who knows Kay when I say how proud we are of this accomplishment,” says Gardere Managing Partner Steve Good.
With a background in track, Ms. Schwartz was encouraged four years ago to consider marathons by Gardere colleague Mark Bayer. A partner in the firm’s Trial Section, Mr. Bayer has qualified for several Boston Marathons. On the basis of her time in the White Rock Marathon in Dallas, she had initially qualified for a place in the 2007 Boston Marathon, but an injury forced her to seek a one-year medical deferral.
“I’ve always been a runner, but focused on sprinting, not on distance running,” she says. “I am so thankful for Mark’s encouragement and my family’s support that allowed me to do this. The experience is something I will never forget. There are people lined up at almost every step of course to do nothing more than cheer on complete strangers. It is incredibly demanding to run, but at the same time entirely enjoyable.”
Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, an AmLaw 200 firm, was founded in 1909 and is one of the Southwest’s largest full-service law firms.
