Never fear, your fairy godfairies are here to point you to the weekend’s hottest events inside cool, refreshing ozone-killing, air-conditioned buildings. Global warming never felt so fun.
Madonnarama
Friday, May 2, 9:00 p.m.
Put on your favorite cone bra and your best fake British accent. Friday night is all about celebrating all that Madge has done for the world as JR’s Bar & Grill forgets Swept Away and rejoices in the release of the newest Madonna album, Hard Candy. As you know, music makes the people come together, and it’ll be nonstop tunes from the Material Girl until 2:00 a.m. Lucky winners will also go home with a copy of the new CD, so wait before you pirate it.
One Night in Bangkok
Saturday, May 3, 10:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m.
The world’s your oyster, the bars are temples, but the pearls ain’t free. Can you feel the devil walking next to you? Then you’re in the wrong place! Dance the night away at this circuit party benefiting the Turtle Creek Chorale and keeping the sequined tank top look alive for another year.
Advance Tickets $20; $30 at the door; The Brick; www.brickparty.net/tickets.htm
2008 Dallas-Ft. Worth Gayla Prom
Saturday, May 3, 7 p.m. – Midnight
For many of us, Prom Night was a hellish experience. And not just because Jamie Lee Curtis was being chased by a psychotic killer throughout the high school. But because we couldn’t express our true selves. Well for the 11th year, Dallas-area GLBTQ youth ages 15 - 22 can be exactly who they are at a fun, safe alternative prom that celebrates diversity and, unlike the straight alternatives, actually features tasteful outfits and good music.
Tickets $15 in advance online; $20 at the door; Hughes-Trigg Ballroom on the SMU Campus, Dallas; www.gaylaprom.org
8th Annual Turtle Creek Home Tour
Sunday, May 4, 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Voyeurs, rejoice. It’s time to traipse through other people’s homes to make fun of their family photos and drool over their Piero Fornasetti chairs. Five homes will be opened up in some of the city’s top luxury high-rise buildings for a true view from the top. If we’re asleep in our beds when you tour, please don’t wake us. The stress of letting strangers into our homes can be exhausting.
Tickets $40 for TCA members; $50 for non-members; (972) 380-7390; www.turtlecreekassociation.org
