— The Texas Rangers played got an uncharacteristic win Thursday at Rangers Ballpark, defeating them 2-1 behind great pitching and defense. Reclamation project Sidney Ponson dominated, and the Rangers took two of three from the Royals in the homestand.

The Rangers are 11-18, worst in major league baseball, but have won four of their last six and taken two of three against the Twins and Royals in back-to-back series.

Ponson, who was out of baseball since last May, pitched extremely well in just his second start with the Rangers. Ponson lasted eight innings, giving up just one run on six hits. Ponson walked two and struck out five, and improved his record to 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA.

C.J. Wilson got his sixth save in the ninth, pitching a perfect inning and getting a strikeout.

The only Rangers runs came off solo home runs. Ian Kinsler hit a leadoff home run to start things off, while shortstop Ramón Vázquez hit the game-winner in the sixth.
