As they sing in the musical Camelot, “It’s May, It’s May, the lusty month of May.” Not sure what lust has to do with the month, but laughs are certainly in order with some over-the-top musicals and silly satires ready to take the stage. You can peep at some toms during The Full Monty, throw popcorn at the bad guys (aka those loud talkers sitting in front of you) during Brandi, The Vampire Staker or reminisce about the glory days in the doublewide with The Great American Trailer Park Musical.
May 9 - 24
This musical is rated R for “mature theme and language.” That’s code for nudity, which means it gets an A++ according to our rating system. But if you’ve ever seen the film or another production of this show, you’ll know that the “Full Monty” is usually attached to a “full belly” so prepare your peepers accordingly.
Tickets: $12 - $15; ONSTAGE In Bedford, Bedford Boys Ranch; www.onstageinbedford.com
Through Saturday, May 17
It’s the valley girl versus the forces of evil in this popcorn-tossing spoof. Hmm, who could we cast in the movie version as the bloodsucking, soulless beast? Got it - Tyra Banks. Oh that’s right, she already has that role on her talk show. Damn!
Tickets: $10 - $18; Pocket Sandwich Theatre; www.pocketsandwich.com
Through Sunday, May 18
Rather than just going to this show, make it a theme outing. Here are some suggestions. Rent a car that screams, “I’m trying to reclaim my youth.” Something along the lines of a convertible Corvette will do just fine. Then get an outfit that’s in style for someone at least 15 years your junior. Round it all out with a completely age-inappropriate date who will raise eyebrows ‘round the room. Now’s that’s a mid-life crisis.
Tickets: $20 - $30; Theatre Three; www.theatre3dallas.com
The Great American Trailer Park Musical
May 21 - 25
Warning: white trash imagery portrayed in this show may hit a little to close to home for some of us. But we promise you’ll have more fun than a pigs-feet-eating contest in a Wal-Mart parking lot or a game of Spin The Bottle with your first cousins.
Tickets: $25 - $38; McKinney Performing Arts Center; www.mckinneyperformingartscenter.org
My Trip Down the Pink Carpet with Leslie Jordan
Wednesday, May 28, 8:00 p.m.
Brother Boy is back to share all the gossip from his trials and tribulations in WeHo and elsewhere. If we are really lucky, maybe he’ll dish a bit about the upcoming Sordid Lives TV show or the yet-to-be-released 12 Miles of Bad Road which costars Lily Tomlin and focuses on “an über-rich dysfunctional Texas family.” We can almost taste the gossip it sounds so good.
Tickets $35 - $80; Majestic Theatre; www.ticketmaster.com

Friday Night Films with AFI Dallas "If you build it, they will come" ... could've described Ray Nasher's vision for NorthPark and his sculpture center, or Lenier Temerlin and Michael Caine's desire to start a local AFI festival. The two team up for an all-American screening of Field of Dreams in the Dallas Arts District. Or there's always fireworks. More info
