New on DVD: Bella, The Hottie…, I’m Not There - and more!
Lots of movies we've previously covered make their way to real and virtual store shelves this week (May 6) in the form of DVDs.
Tops on the list in terms of "recommendability" is the heartwarming (in an intelligent and thoughtful way) Bella, which played the AFI Dallas festival in 2007. It looks at love and life from a refreshingly different angle.
The Hottie and the Nottie (perhaps one of the most cringe-inducing titles ever - appropriately enough) brings together the acting talents of Paris Hilton and the scripting acumen of Heidi Ferrer. Grisly fare, this. If only the Cinematic Titanic crew could get their hands (and brains) on this misbegotten epic.
The Dylan multiple personality pseudo-biopic I'm Not There emerges this week in the form of a two-disc collector's edition. The times, they are a' changin' - and so is the man (or at least his public persona).
And finally, here's your chance to have a look at a pair of uneven after-death romantic comedies that took the Ghost premise and ran with it - into a plot-shrapnel minefield. Presented for your semi-conscious viewing pleasure are Over Her Dead Body and P.S. I Love You.
Finally, in case anyone actually noticed, this column didn't run last week because there was only one new DVD released that we'd previously reviewed as a film, and that one was The Golden Compass. Which you will still find, no doubt, available for convenient purchase currently.
Now, back to the movies.

Pavel Lishin, says:
Does anyone actually know anyone who went to see The Hottie and The Nottie?
Bonus points if they went sober.

I don't know about the sober part, but...

Alex Bentley, says:
Well, since the film only made just under $28,000, I'm guessing most of the attendees were definitely high or there on a dare. (Since the Film Guy went for free, he is exempt from the above statement)

I think they'd have to pay me to watch it. Or threaten to fire me, were it my job to review movies.
