Seattle Mariners 7, Texas Rangers 3

The Texas Rangers were kind enough to end the Mariners' five-game losing streak Monday night, barely showing up in a deflating 7-3 loss in Seattle. The loss dropped Texas to 13-20, one game behind the Mariners.

The game was a carbon-copy of the Rangers' problems in their earlier seven-game losing streak: Texas gave up a lot of runs early, then failed to mount any sort of comeback until it was too late.

Rangers starter Kevin Millwood pitched terribly, lasting just three innings in perhaps his worst outing of the year. Millwood gave up seven runs and nine hits in that short span of time, and raised his ERA from 3.86 to 4.94. Millwood also dropped to 2-3 on an otherwise decent season.

One bright spot was the mop-up performance of middle reliever Josh Rupe, who followed Millwood's nightmarish three innings with four shutout innings of his own. Rupe gave up just one hit, no walks, and struck out three in those four innings.

All of the Rangers offense came in the top of the seventh, when they finally got something going after Milton Bradley's two-run double. Bradley would later score off a Brandon Boggs groundout.

True to form for a young team --especially one coached by somehow-legendary hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo-- the Rangers managed zero walks, and collected just seven hits.
