One UT Arlington graduate and two current students were featured prominently in an extensive 60 Minutes piece about the Innocence Project on CBS Sunday night.

Alexis Hoff – who earned her bachelor’s degree in history from UT Arlington – worked on the case of James Lee Woodard, a Dallas man who was freed last week through DNA testing and a change in testimony after spending more than 27 years in prison.

Dorothy Whitehead and Julpa Dave – two undergraduates at UT Arlington – were also featured in the 60 Minutes broadcast. John Stickels, an assistant professor in criminology at UT Arlington, works with the Innocence Project, a group that works through DNA testing to exonerate innocent people who have been incarcerated.

To date, the group has worked to free more than 200 DNA-based exonerations. Woodard is the 17th such exoneration in Dallas County.
