— The Farmers Branch Fire Department is conducting “We’re out to Alarm Texas” smoke alarm campaign for the second consecutive year. The program is designed to offer a measure of fire protection to seniors and those otherwise unable to afford smoke alarms.

A joint project of the Texas State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Insurance Council of Texas, the program will fund 100 new First Alert dual sensor smoke alarms to be installed in homes through March 1, 2008.

Farmers Branch Fire Marshal Tim Dedear explains that during last year’s smoke alarm campaign, the fire department installed 160 new smoke alarms in the City. During that process, approximately 69 were more than 10 years old, and 16 alarms were in need of new batteries.

“’We’re out to Alarm Texas’” smoke alarm campaign will provide a positive impact on the citizens of Farmers Branch by saving lives, reduce property losses, and provide quality fire protection to our seniors and residents who otherwise are unable to afford smoke alarms,” said Chief Dedear.

Seniors and those unable to afford smoke alarms should contact the Farmers Branch Fire Department at 972-919-2640 for eligibility information and to sign up for the program. Smoke alarms will be installed by Farmers Branch Fire Department personnel on a first come/first served basis.
